Let's #BreakTheInternet Dec 12 to Save Net Neutrality

What You Can Do on the December 12 Day of Action for Net Neutrality

On December 12, 2017, websites, Internet users, and online communities will come together to sound the alarm about the FCC’s attack on net neutrality. Learn how you can join the protest and spread the word at https://www.battleforthenet.com/.

Right now, new FCC Chairman and former Verizon lawyer Ajit Pai has a plan to destroy net neutrality and give big cable companies immense control over what we see and do online. If they get their way, the FCC will give companies like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T control over what we can see and do on the Internet, with the power to slow down or block websites and charge apps and sites extra fees to reach an audience.

If we lose net neutrality, we could soon face an Internet where some of your favorite websites are forced into a slow lane online, while deep-pocketed companies who can afford expensive new “prioritization” fees have special fast lane access to Internet users – tilting the playing field in their favor.

But on December 12th, the Internet will come together to stop them. Websites, Internet users, and online communities will stand tall, and sound the alarm about the FCC’s attack on net neutrality.

The Battle for the Net campaign will provide tools for everyone to make it super easy for your friends, family, followers to take action. From the SOPA blackout to the Internet Slowdown, we've shown time and time again that when the Internet comes together, we can stop censorship and corruption. Now, we have to do it again!

Why Does Net Neutrality Matter?

My Holiday Adventure-a-thon TBR: Team #HolidaySnowman

For once I am actually signing up for something before the start date! This means what I read will actually count for points for my team.

The Holiday Adventuure-a-thon is December 13 - 24th. It is hosted by Novel Thoughts.

The idea is that you choose and ending point and team, then follow a map to get to that end point.

Here is the map:

To make things a bit easier this round Novel Thoughts has also included this handy chart (which honestly I personally like much better than the map):

There are also four different teams. (Please see Novel Thoughts for the list.)

I chose Team #HolidaySnowman
because it has been my goal to read The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah all year and I am going to get that book read if it's the last thing I do! (Not really. The last thing I will probably do is watch the ball drop but it sounds determined, right?) I also have some holds from the library and they are due back during the readathon so I had to fit these in. Fortunately I was able to do it!

Here is my TBR for the Holiday Adventure-a-thon:

I will also be reading the Christmas and snow themed book for my own readathon Whole Latte Xmas! This challenge runs from Nov 5 to Jan 7. You can find all the info and sign up here.
